Tropfest lands in the 'Gong
THE world’s largest short-film festival is coming to Wollongong this summer with the city’s Botanic Garden hosting its own Tropfest event in February.
Tropfest starts on Sunday, February 19, and features a six-week program of outdoor movies at the IMB Garden Cinema.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said Council had been seeking to attract and encourage events in the region.
“Over the past few months, Council has been actively trying to attract events to the city,” Cr Bradbery said.
“It’s all part of the Brand Wollongong project, a city marketing program established to promote Wollongong under a unified brand. Council has been working with a range of local partners to attract and develop a range of signature events.”
With more than 700 entries each year, the Tropfest short-film festival has grown to include nine locations across Australia and New Zealand.
Cr Bradbery encouraged citizens to dust off their photographic gear and have a go at producing a film. “Tropfest is a bit of fun and it’s an opportunity for people to be creative,” he said.
This year's theme item is a light bulb which needs to be features in the short films, which are restricted to seven minutes. For further information, visit www.tropfest.com
