Feet are the window to the sole
This little piggy: Val Wallington at work on a client at the Stanwell Park Village Markets, held in the CWA Hall on the first Sunday of the month.
OUR feet may ground us and take us places but few realise how important the southern-most appendages are to our overall sense of well-being.
Stanwell Park reflexologist Val Wallington says there are many nerve endings in the feet and each area relates to a different part of the body. For example, toes link to the head, just under the little toe relates to the shoulder and the heel relates to the lower abdomen and buttocks.
The soles of the feet are linked to the lungs, heart, digestive system and other internal organs, as well as the back muscles.
“Reflexology works on the principal that the body is reflected on the feet, hands, ears and face,” Ms Wallington said. “It’s not guaranteed to fix everything but it can certainly help a lot of problems.”
She said the “power of touch” generated endorphins and improved circulation, helping to bring nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body.
“The treatment can help with chronic fatigue as well as muscloskeletal problems,” she said.
Ms Wallington, who is also a naturopath, has been practising as a reflexologist for 16 years. She said it was easy to learn and the reflex points were a “simple map”.
“It’s good for emotional issues and is very balancing,” she said. “It helps with digestion, constipation, period pain, headaches and many other things.
“It works well on its own and with other therapies, such as osteopathy.”
Ms Wallington’s experienced hands detect blockages, which appear as crystals, gravel or grains of sand under her fingers. “I can feel tingling which points to a lot of blocked energy sorting itself out.”
Her goal is to teach parents how to work on their children. “For instance, it can very helpful for people with asthma,” she said. “And it’s not just for babies.”
Ms Wallington offers her service at the Stanwell Park and Helensburgh markets as well as privately. To book a session, phone 0418 603 009 or email valw53@gmail.com
