Content Management System (CMS)

Please find below detailed instructions that will allow you to update text and images at your website, using the NiO Content Management System. If you are experiencing difficulties, please contact NiO with a description of the error or problem, and we will seek to rectify as soon as possible.

We strongly recommend that you use the FIREFOX web browser when using this system - we have found that problems will occur if you are using Vista on a PC. FIREFOX is a free download and is available in the right column of this page.

This system is best used in whatwe call a "magazine style layout" - that is, paragraphs of text with a few images placed around them. It does not work well as a photo gallery facility.

Step 1 - Login

Login at the CMS with your secure username and password at;

http://www.nio.net.au/admin.php

Step 2

Click EDIT PAGES

Step 3 - Select a page to edit

Click EDIT next to the page you wish to alter. If you have no pages, or require new pages to your list, please contact NiO with a brief description of what is required.

Step 4 - Adding text

At this stage you can start changing the text in your selected page by simply adding and removing information in the large TEXT box. You can also change the TITLE if you wish.

Step 5 - Uploading images

At this stage you may wish to add some images to your gallery for placement on your pages.

Click the blue link UPLOAD IMAGES which will then take you to the upload facility.

Find the first vacant row, click CHOOSE FILE,

then select the image on your computer you wish to add.

Repeat this last step to add more images.

When you have finished, click UPLOAD at the bottom of the page.

Please note that only JPG and GIF files are supported, and that there is a file size limit of 300kB.

To remove images from your gallery, repeat Step 5, but instead of choosing new images, click the CHECK TO DELETE THIS IMAGE box next to each redundant image, then click UPLOAD at the bottom of the page.

Step 6 - Adding images to your page

After again selecting the page you wish to edit, you will now see your new images appearing as a list of file names.

Place the cursor within the large TEXT box, in the position where you would like to place an image,

then select the name of the image you wish to add (at this point a small preview of the image will appear),

select the align image button to have the image at the left or right,

then the image size (300 or 500 pixels wide)

followed by the IMAGE button in the FORMATTING OPTIONS.

At this point you should see a string of text or code, appear in the place where you put the cursor.

You can continue to add text and images at this stage or simply click EDIT PAGE at the bottom of the page to make your changes live at your site.

Step 7 - Formatting text

You may wish to format text as well as adding other dynamic content like web links and email addresses.

This is simply done by selecting the text you wish to format (this should appear as a highlight on those words),

then click the formatting option from the FORMATTING OPTIONS line.

These include TITLE, BOLD, ITALIC, UNDERLINE, WEB LINKS (URL), EMAIL LINKS, and as described above IMAGE placement.

With Web addresses, you will be first asked to add the full address such as http://www.johnsmith.com.au (it is very important to include the http:// before the www), followed by the name of the website, such as John Smith.

Finally you will be asked if you want this link opended as a new page or not - we recommend that you choose OK.

Email links are the same excpet that the first panel should contain the full email address, such as john@johnsmith.com.au, followed by the the persons name, such as John Smith, or you can simply add the full email address twice.

Step 8 - Removing text formatting and images

To remove formatting, simply choose the page you wish to edit,

find the formatted text or image (including the brackets on each side of it) in the TEXT box and delete it.

Sometimes you may find that you have missed a bracket or left one part of some old formatting in place. This will show up at your website as unwanted text or incorrectly formatted sections of text. You will need to go back to the CMS for that page and remove that stray information.

Step 9 - Checking your website

Finally, return to your site vis your web browser to check that the changes have occurred.

If you do not see the changes in place, most importantly;

REFRESH YOUR BROWSER WINDOW

To do this, look for the symbol at the top of the browser window that looks like two arrows moving in a circle. Once you have clicked this, you should see the changes in place.
